nighttime photos taken from
The Park by Kohei Yoshiyuki (published by Hatje Cantz)
The Park = a collection of photos taken in public parks in Japan between 1971-1979. Many of the photos were also exhibited as life sized prints; presented in a dark gallery with visitors able to view them only by using flashlights that were provided by the gallery.
From an interview with Yoshiyuki:--
KY: only couples who've had sex before fuck in a park. you can always spot them because they walk fast.
So you stand at the entrance watching , then you see a couple walking fast , so you know you'll get some good shots?
KY:that's definitely what I look for.
Daylit photos taken from
Passing Through Eden by Tod Papageorge (published by Stedl)
Passing Through Eden = a collection of photos taken in Central Park, Manhattan, between 1966-1992. Papageorge presents the photos in an order that's meant to represent the first four chapters of the Book Of Genesis.
I began to make more photographs of things that held no immediately observable interest for me as soon as I came across them, but that seen or sensed, in relation to other things moving and acting around them, presented at least the possibility of being riddled into a picture whose meanings would owe everything to the way it was formed and stopped short by the snap of a shutter.- Tod Papageorge
